The following poem was penned by paul whilst he waited to bury his
father in Jamaica.

my father was a Jamaican, who after he was told,
left his precious Jamaica, to seek his silver and gold.
the motherland, it was advertised, needed to be rebuilt,
Great Britain declared it needed help, and so without any guilt,
she pleaded for the thousands to come and make a new life,
and so a boat my father did board...
DESTINATION ENGLAND

and so he reached the motherland, but it was not paved with gold,
things were not as he had hoped, or what that he'd been told.
after a short spell down south in England,
he decided to plant new seeds,
he left, and found his new spiritual home, a city known as Leeds.
DESTINATION LEEDS

it was here he met my mum again, his feelings from Jamaica he'd carried,
for thousands of miles, a love rekindled, their love became a marriage.
but things were not that easy in England, for the cross he had to bear,
was man's ignorance, to the colour of his skin,
dad's courage and strength were rare.
in Jesus' name, he turned the other cheek and thought
about the cross,
he showed he would not retaliate and it would be their loss.
they would never get to know a man, and the words that he would teach,
harmony, peace, friendship and love,
from Jamaica to England he'd preach.
DESTINATION JAMAICA

and so he approached his 'golden years' and England served him well,
England now he'd grown to love, but something else fortell.
he was yearnin' for HIS motherland, he wanted to go back,
to live his final years in Jamaica, for the yellow, green and black.
he lived the dream, to his dying day, and now he rests in peace,
and so his final journey begins....

'Happy Birthday' 25th September 2011.

Dearest Dad,
You would have been 80 years old today. I often think about you but moreso on your birthday. I remember how I used to buy a phone card and ring you up on your birthday. I'd speak to you until the phone card was finished. We'd talk about lots of things and wait in anticipation as to who would be the first one to 'sign off.' I love you Dad! With loving wishes your daughter, Diane.

Another year gone dad! and as I always say, 'we are still missing you just as much'. On my agenda at some point is to go to your tomb, just to sit there and remember things and laugh like we always did. I can now say God bless the camcorder as I can see you, hear you and watch you from years gone by, but never will I forget you...love you pops X Happy FathersDay...

Still, remembering you...

Dad, three years ago today you were taken from us and even though its to a better place it still hurts. I am constantly being told that the older I get the more I am beginning to look even more like you and that gives me comfort. I hope to go to Ja within the next couple of years to visit your tomb and sit there and talk to you and be 'at one with you'. As always, I love you Dad you are a real inspiration...

Merry Christmas Dad

Dearest Dad,
Today is Christmas Day and you are missed. I noticed today the different telephone calls from friends and family members and remember when you used to call at Christmastime. That call is now just a mere memory and serves as a reminder of a time that was precious and held dear by Mom and I.

I remember how Christmas was your favourite time of the year. I had my Christmas dinner at three o'clock this afternoon and I thought about how you used to love your Christmas food and drink.

I think about you at times. Love to you Always.
